Have you ever looked at someone and thought, Wow, they are too cute to act this way or I can’t believe that someone this beautiful is intoxicated, sprung-out, defected, ill-mannered, or this crazy?
In my human state of mind, I have caught myself thinking like this. I wanted to know how God could let this happen. To my state of mind, I had no answer but left with confusion because I viewed things from a human perspective. I did not understand the plans or error of worldly ways. I was on the outside viewing inwards and could not see the beauty in lessons, experiences, and error. I was trying to figure out which world was more twisted, my view of it or the Heavenly Father’s?
Today I realize that God views things totally different than humans. People that we view as defunct could possibly be still beautiful in the eyes of the beholder… the broken and the fallen. I am looking through human eyes and my take on life is probably not His take on life or the beauty that lies within it.
There is no look to injustice, disease or pain. Physical beauty tends to fade in the eyes of humans. Beauty, however, is always in the eyes of the Divine Beholder. From a human perspective, is it possible that God got a few things wrong before creation but couldn’t get rid of these beautiful creatures because he loved them so much? He wanted to give humans chance. A human state of mind would look at this as sickness, but God could possibly look at this as an experience. Just maybe, He believes that everyone should live life and we each learn from it. Songs of Solomon 4:7 states that “Every part of you is so beautiful, my love. There is no flaw in you.” In 1 Samuel 16:7 states that “I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at what is in the heart.”
It is not the beauty outside that matters, it is the beauty that lies within. So what is true beauty? I believe that beauty is what God sees in us and lust (sometimes) is what we interpret as beauty. True beauty is character and good form. Bad form is life lessons that are associated with bad spirits and matter. God’s reasoning is what makes humans’ view of beauty valid only if we apply His law. The Word states that “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” –Ecclesiastes 3:11, ESV
“Suffering becomes beautiful when anyone bears great calamities with cheerfulness, not through insensibility but through greatness of mind,” Aristotle once said. He also stated that “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
You have the ability to overcome any adversity in this world because you believe there’s another way and that is beauty in itself. The human creature is made beautiful by his/her character. Our Creator believes this as well as some of our greatest philosophers.
